Umstead Park May Add 125 Acres

The Triangle's oasis of green -- William B. Umstead State Park -- would feel a little more removed from the glaring signs and speeding traffic along U.S. 70 under a plan to add 125 acres to protect the park's Sycamore Creek and Big Lake.
A coalition of conservation groups, headed by the state Division of Parks and Recreation, proposes to buy the mostly wooded acres behind the Angus Barn from members of the Eure family and Angus Barn properties at a cost of $7 million. more
