Stop RDU Quarry – Raleigh City Council, Tuesday, May 21, 2pm

  • 05/21/2019
  • 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Raleigh City Council Chambers, 222 West Harget

There's an important meeting next Tuesday at 1:00 PM in Raleigh. We have 7 speakers from concerned organizations, including NC Senator Wiley Nickel, speaking before the Raleigh City Council.

In a recent press article Wake Stone was quoted, saying those opposed to the RDU quarry project are a "very vocal" minority. We and the over 18,000 petition signers beg to differ. This is a great opportunity to show just how many citizens want the owners of the property (Raleigh, Wake, Durham, and Durham Co) to have a say in this important regional decision, and the impacts it will have on Umstead State Park. We are advocating for Raleigh, one of the owning municipalities of this land, to have a say in the decision to quarry OR not quarry the Odd Fellows tract on the border of Umstead Park.

The City Council meeting starts at 1:00 PM. But the citizen speakers (our part) won't start until 2:00. If you have the time, come at 1:00. If not, be there by 2:00pm and just please be quiet and respectful as you walk in. We'll have signs and stickers for you in the lobby before you enter council chambers.

Only those that already signed up 2 weeks in advance will be speaking on our behalf. HOWEVER, a significant audience presence with signs will speak volumes. We know this has been a long effort and but I know yo agree that Umstead State is worth it!  We appreciate you supporting our Umstead State Park!
