The volunteer work for this service day will include working on the kitchen ceiling for final prep for painting, as well as sanding and repairing the historic mess hall tables and benches.

If the weather is cooperative, we will be polyurathaning benches and tables.  And, painting shutters.

For those with carpentry expertise, we have window shutters that need replacement boards.

Help us restore Sycamore Mess Hall so it can be open for public use for the first time in almost 30 years. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and Works Progress Administration (WPA), The Sycamore Mess Hall first opened to the public in 1937.

Guarantee you will feel a great sense of satisfaction after what you accomplish on this work day!

The Umstead Coalition will provide lunch, snacks and water.

We will have gloves.  Dress appropriate for painting, scraping, and cleaning.  Service day goes rain or shine, warm or cold.

We recognize you may only be able to attend for part of the day -- we'd love to have help for whatever time you can participate.

Note:  we cross post this event at a couple event sites. We anticipate about 5 to 15 volunteers.
