CANCELLED Volunteer for 2020 Walk/Run/Bike for Umstead

Base fee:
  • On-line sign-ups for volunteers available through Thursday April 16. No cost to volunteers. You may purchase a T-shirt for $10 ($5 discount) when you sign up or at the event. Volunteer slots are assigned in the order that you sign-up - so sign up early to get your choice!

We're thankful for all our volunteers. Please read below for task descriptions and schedules for the 2020 Walk/Run/Bike for Umstead event. 

We'll try to assign you to your volunteer selections; however, if a slot is filled, we may assign you to another task in the same time period — assignments are made in the order of receiving volunteer forms. Please call (919) 852-2268 or email us if you have any questions. 

Volunteers must be at least 11 years of age. All volunteers under 18 must have waiver signed by a guardian or parent. The Walk/Run/Bike for Umstead happens rain or shine.

Volunteers may purchase a t-shirt for $10 when they sign up here to volunteer or at the event. ($5 discount)

The  days and tasks we need the most volunteers are below:

  • Afternoon set-up:  Wednesday - Friday, April 15-17
  • Parking: Saturday, April 18
  • Take-down: Saturday, April 18

Volunteering for Pre-Registration and Packet Pickup Events

These tasks include t-shirt folding and packet stuffing.

  • Saturday, March 28 (2-4pm). Park Visitor Center
  • Saturday, April 4 (10-noon). Reedy Creek Road at Walk/Run/Bike start location (Raleigh)
  • Sunday, April 5 (11-2 pm). REI (Raleigh store, North Hills)
  • Sunday, April 5 (4-7 pm). REI (Cary store)
  • Friday, April 10 (4-7 pm). Great Outdoor Provision (Cameron Village, Raleigh)
  • Saturday, April 11 (1:30-5 pm). Inside-Out Sports (Cary store)
  • Friday, April 17 (5-7 pm). Reedy Creek Road at Walk/Run/Bike start location (Raleigh)
  • Saturday, April 18 (8- 9 am). Walk/Run/Bike site, Reedy Creek Road, Raleigh

Registration Packet Preparations

  • The week before the event from 9am-4pm. Times will depend upon volunteer availability. Please list times available in "Limitations or Questions" field when signing up to volunteer.

Volunteering for Site Prep

Putting up tents and site prep.  Park at 6000 Reedy Creek Rd, Raleigh (drive through pasture gate).

Volunteering for the Event on Saturday, April 18

Putting up tents, site prep, serving food, kids crafts, route tables, registration and more.  Park at 6000 Reedy Creek Rd, Raleigh (drive through pasture gate). Sign-in at Volunteer Table.

Site Setup

  • 6:30am-9am


  • 7am-10am
  • 10am-1:30pm
  • 11am-2pm (includes some signage take-down)
Run Timing Support
  • 8:30am-11am


  • All day (you will need your own camera)

Troubadour and Stage Musicians

  • 8am-noon (Troubador Musician) Troubadour musicians play music (non-amplified) on the Park trails during the Walk/Run/Bike. Only family-friendly songs allowed.  

 Exhibitor (invitees only)

  • 7am-1:30pm

 Registration, Sales and Odd Jobs

  • 7am-11:00am
  • 11am-2:00pm

Route Tables

Hand out fruit and water. Please bring a cell phone. You can contact us at: (919) 852-2268.

Bike Safety and Support

You must provide your own mountain bike and wear a helmet. Please bring a cell phone. You can contact us at (919) 852-2268. Note: If Triangle Off-road Cyclists (TORC) member helping with the bike tours, please sign-up at http://torc-nc.org/

Food Serving and Recycling Management

  • 8am-11am

Kids Crafts

Supervise crafts with kids.

  • 8am-10am

Take Down

Take down tents, dismantle stage and load into trailers.

  • 1:15-4:15pm
  • 3-6pm (feel free to start earlier)
