Detailed information is including and additional race information on how to run the event and upload/view your results with registration confirmation email. 

The 2021 Walk/Run/Bike for Umstead will be conducted using the RunGo App on your iPhone, Android, or Apple Watch.  It's free.  You need to download to your phone. You can create a free RunGo Account to keep track of your completed events, but this is optional to participate. 

You can run, walk, and/or bike the official event routes anytime (that Park is open) on your own (but only times entered by noon on April 22 will be used for awards).  T-shirt and Swag pick up will be 3-7pm on April 21 and April 22.  Awards can be picked up from 3-7pm on April 22.

We have set up 2 routes. Both are Out and Return.  One is approximately 4.1 miles; the other is approximately 11.2 miles.  Both routes start at the same place near the Reedy Creek Parking Lot (off Harrison Ave), but split after crossing Reedy Creek Lake.   Both routes are on the multi-use trails (MUT).  

You are free to run, walk, bike each route as many times as you want.  And, you are welcome to do one or more of the distances and walk, run, or bikes under 1 registration (but, one event at a time).   

Because the event is timed and recorded by the RunGo App, each registrant must be registered with a unique email and you must use that same email to upload you finish results to the LeaderBoard.

Funds raised will go towards stopping the proposed new quarry pit on the Odd Fellows Tract next to our Park on public lands and for environmental education for your wonderful State Park.

Important Dates

ANYTIME through 5pm April 22  (during park hours). Register and Run, Walk, Run on the routes on your own, or with your friends.  Only times uploaded by noon on April 22 will count towards awards.

Parking

Onsite parking for the event is at 2100 N Harrison Ave, Cary, 27513.  This is the Reedy Creek parking lot accessed off Harrison Ave.  Note:  Parking and access is limited at this entrance to the parking space available.  Consider planning your walk, run, or bike during off-peak times. 

The Routes (both routes on Out and Return on MUT):

The Route is shown on your device and route directions are given at each turn and some points of interest. Both routes are Out and Return on Multi-use Trails (MUT) within William B. Umstead State Park. Both routes start near the Harrison Ave Park gate and go to Reedy Creek Lake via the Reedy Creek Parkway and Reedy Creek Lake MUT. All times will be adjusted to the same distance so no worries if you start/stop slightly different than others.

Anyone can access these routes for free.  Only the registered folks are eligible for prizes, Swag, and T-shirts. 

Start is near Harrison Ave Park gate on the Reedy Creek Parkway (about 150 ft in from the "Road Closed" barricade). Go 0.48 miles on pavement to slight right onto the gravel Reedy Creek Lake Multi-Use Trail (MUT).  Continue past Reedy Creek Lake and up the short hill to the trail intersection at 1.13 miles.  Turn RIGHT onto Reedy Creek MUT to ~2.05 miles  (the turnaround is before the Trenton Road Gate where the South Turkey Creek Trail comes in to your left).  Return same route.  

11.2 Mile Walk/Run/Bike for Umstead Route 

Start is near Harrison Ave Park gate on the Reedy Creek Parkway (about 150 ft in from the "Road Closed" barricade). Go 0.48 miles on pavement to slight right onto the gravel Reedy Creek Lake Multi-Use Trail (MUT).  Continue past Reedy Creek Lake and up the short hill to the trail intersection at ~1.13 miles. Turn LEFT onto Reedy Creek MUT to Park Gate, CONTINUE past Park Gate onto Old Reedy Creek Road greenway, over I-40 to the Town of Cary's Old Reedy Creek Trail Head Parking lot. (there are toilets here).  Return same route.
