The Umstead Coalition wants to thank the multitude of Park lovers, along with numerous organizations, businesses, elected officials, and community leaders who helped sustain the past six-year effort that led to the RDU Quarry Mining Permit Denial. This couldn't have happened without your donations, letters to elected officials, outreach, event attendance, and more.

We are proud of the role we had and will continue to have in proactively providing service and protection to William B. Umstead State Park. We are particularly proud to have so many great partners in protecting our Park from perhaps one of the most disastrous proposals to an NC State Park.

Come for a photo opportunity and to celebrate this huge success and see the Odd Fellows Tract (rather the border with William B. Umstead State Park). We hope soon we can once again have legal access to the Odd Fellows Tract.

Bring your yard signs. Wear your "RDU Forest - Don't Take Your Forest for Granite" t-shirts. Wear Green. We hope you can join us!

  • 1pm: Meet at 2232 Old Reedy Creek Road. Park along the shoulder
  • 1-1:30pm: Photos and thank you's. High fives!
  • 1:30-3pm: Optional moderately difficult hike along the tract we strive to protect. Expect stops and discussions to highlight what we are striving to save.
The hike will be led by Dr. Jean Spooner, Chair of the Umstead Coalition.

Location: 2232 Old Reedy Creek Road, Cary, NC (park along the road shoulder)
