Volunteer for 2023 Walk/Run/Bike for Umstead

Base fee:
  • Online sign-ups for volunteers available through Thursday, April 20. No cost to volunteers. You may purchase a t-shirt and get a $5 discount when you sign up or at the event. Volunteer slots are assigned in the order that you sign-up - so sign up early to get your choice!

We're thankful for all our volunteers. Please read below for task descriptions and schedules for the 2023 Walk/Run/Bike for Umstead event. 

We'll try to assign you to your volunteer selections; however, if a slot is filled, we may assign you to another task in the same time period — assignments are made in the order of receiving volunteer forms. Please call (919) 852-2268 or email us if you have any questions. 

Volunteers must be at least 11 years of age. All volunteers under 18 must have waiver signed by a guardian or parent. The Walk/Run/Bike for Umstead happens rain or shine.

Volunteers may purchase a t-shirt for $20 when they sign up here to volunteer or at the event. ($5 discount)

The  days and tasks we need the most volunteers are below:

  • Afternoon set-up:  Wednesday - Friday, April 19-21
  • Parking: Saturday, April 22
  • Take-down: Saturday, April 22

Volunteering for Pre-Registration and Packet Pickup Events (please show up 30 minutes early to help with set-up)

Registration Packet Preparations

  • Saturday, March 25,(10am-4pm)  Park Visitor Center, Packet prep & registration, 2 hour slots OK
  • Saturday, April 1 (8:30am- 12:30pm). Walk/Run/Bike site, Reedy Creek RD
  • Friday, April 7 (2-5pm). Great Outdoor Provision Company, Village District
  • Saturday, April 15 (1-4pm). Reedy Creek Park entrance (off Harrison Ave, Cary)
  • Sunday, April 16 (1-4pm). Inside Out Sports, Cary
  • Friday, April 21 (4-8pm). Reedy Creek Road at Walk/Run/Bike start location (Raleigh)
  • Volunteering for Site Prep
  • Putting up tents and site prep.  Park at 6000 Reedy Creek Rd, Raleigh (drive through pasture gate).

    Volunteering for the Event on Saturday, April 22

    Putting up tents, site prep, serving food, kids crafts, route tables, registration and more.  Park at 6000 Reedy Creek Rd, Raleigh (drive through pasture gate). Sign-in at Volunteer Table.

    Site Setup

    • 6:30am-9am

    Parking

    • 7am-10am
    • 10am-1pm
    • 11am-2pm (includes some signage take-down)

    Photography

    • All day (you will need your own camera)

    Stage Musicians (invitees only)

    • 8am-noon Musicians play music (non-amplified) on the Park trails during the Walk/Run/Bike. Only family-friendly songs allowed.  

     Exhibitor (invitees only)

    • 7am-12:30pm

     Registration, Sales and Odd Jobs

    • 7am-11:00am
    • 11am-2:00pm (includes take-down)

    Route Tables

    Hand out fruit and water. Please bring a cell phone. You can contact us at: (919) 852-2268.

    • 8am-noon

    Bike Safety and Support

    You must provide your own mountain bike and wear a helmet. Please bring a cell phone. You can contact us at (919) 852-2268. Note: If Triangle Off-road Cyclists (TORC) or Old North Cycling  member helping with the bike tours, please sign-up at through those organizations.

    • 8:45am-noon (Support for Run/Walk)
    • 9am-noon (TORC leaders)

    Food Serving and Recycling Management

    • 7:30am-11am
    • 11am-2pm

    Kids Crafts

    Supervise crafts with kids.

    • 7:30am-10:30am
    • 10:30am-1:30pm

    Take Down

    Take down tents, dismantle stage and load into trailers.

    • noon-3pm
    • 3-6pm (feel free to start earlier)
