  • 09/27/2018
  • 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • RDU General Aviation Terminal, 1750 E. International Drive

Public Workshop Set For ParkRDU Economy 3 Expansion Environmental Assessment

When:  Thursday, September 27, 4-8pm Drop in to talk with project staff, review maps and view exhibits.

Where: Airport Authority’s offices, in Conference Room 100 of the RDU Center at 1000 Trade Drive on the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, Morrisville, NC 27560.

What:  The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority will hold a public workshop on the proposed ParkRDU Economy 3 Lot Expansion on National Guard Drive near the interchange of I-40 and Aviation Parkway, south of Terminal 1. The workshop will focus on the environmental assessment process as the lot is studied for expansion.

Interested citizens will have an opportunity to learn about the environmental assessment process and will be encouraged to ask questions and share comments. Presentation display boards will be used to assist with the interactions between citizens and consultants

This area is extremely close to William B. Umstead State Park and our proposed forested trail system.

We have not seen their plans, but it will be likely appropriate to make comments to ensure:

  • 1.     Parking lot is built with Low Impact Development (LID) techniques to minimize storm water impacts to Umstead State Park
  • 2.     Maintain substantial FORESTED buffers between parking lot and Umstead State Park
  • 3.     Parking is available for the RDU Forest trails (recall that Wake County is currently under negotiations to put official single-track bike/ped trails adjacent to this proposed parking lot expansion, e.g., “286 trails.”
