Thanks to all who came to the RDU Quarry Sunset Clause trial this past week. The two parties involved are the Umstead Coalition and NC DEQ. NC DEQ is defending Wake Stone's Triangle Quarry mining permit. While Wake Stone is not directly involved in this court case, there were representatives from Wake Stone present everyday.

The hearing was held all day on Tuesday-Thursday (June 19-21) of this past week. Former Attorney General Rufus Edmisten, who was actually involved with original Wake Stone Triangle Quarry permit testified, as did Erv Portman, Dr. Jean Spooner and Natalie Lew.

The trial has been continued to Monday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 26 (no court on Tuesday, June 25). Court starts at 9am and there is a 2-hour lunch break between (approximately) noon and 2pm. Please join us for whatever time you have - an hour is totally fine!

Dates and place:  Monday, June 24 Wednesday, June 26, from 9am-5pm (there is a 2 hour lunch break from noon-2pm).

Courtroom A

Two-story brick building with plenty of free parking

Logistics:  For the 9am trail start, arrive at 8:30am to show ID, sign-in and go through a  security check to be ready for a 9am start.  Sit in the section behind the Umstead Coalition attorneys (on the right). There is a 2-hour break for lunch from noon-2pm.

Public is welcome and we would LOVE, LOVE supporters in the courtroom.

You may enter and leave if you need, but be quiet - no talking or noises during court. Even if you can only come for an hour one of the days, that will make a difference!

During the hearing there will be 10 minute breaks at which time the attorneys and their clients (in our case a couple key Umstead Coalition folks) will retreat to conferences rooms (also a good time to go to the bathroom).  You can just hang out in the courtroom or area until the trial resumes. Computers are allowed, but no recordings in the courtroom are allowed (same as any court).
