The Umstead Coalition contends:

  • A Master Plan is needed (with extensive public input) for all the airport's non-aeronautical land uses
  • Wake County should buy the lands at LCCP
  • The 148 forested acres at LCCP have been in active use by mountain bikers, hikers, nature lovers since the 1994 lease between Wake County and the RDUAA. Recreation was repeated planned since the 1950's by the County, RDUAA, and Regional planning organizations.
  • Yanking these lands after the public's 30 years of enjoyment is the opposite of "community good will"
  • Keeping these forested trails IS allowed by FAA regulations
  • Per the 1999 Federal Register, below Fair Market Value (FMV) is allowed for recreational lands to improved community good will
  • The land is zoned Wake County R30, R40, Highway District. Wake County should enforce their zoning and not allow the property value to be incorrectly inflated
  • Federal dollars up fit this land (Lake Crabtree, sewer line, waterline) which must required approval of the airport owners (Wake and Durham County and Raleigh and Durham Cities) to convert to permanent non-aeronautical uses
  • The land is NOT owned by RDUAA. It is owned by the public owners of RDU (Wake Co., Durham Co., Raleigh, Durham). RDUAA only manages the land. Given the history and how important this park is to this area, these lands should revert back to Wake County !
