Volunteer: 9am-noon and noon-4pm

This service day will concentrate on maintenance for our Forested Rain Garden.  We will be placing rocks to stabilize the side slopes and weeding. We also need volunteers to help with work day set-up and take-down. There will be tasks to accommodate a variety of physical levels. This work day is suited for ages 16 years and older. We have set up 2 volunteer time slots: 9am-noon ; noon-4pm. Bring your work gloves if you have them, but we also will have gloves. The Umstead Coalition will provide snacks and water.

This project is providing several environmental and user benefits, including:  reduced runoff volume and intensity of stormwater runoff (as well as treatment of sediment and nutrient pollutants) due to the infiltration into special soil media and plants installed in the medians. The trees and shrubs will provide much needed shade in the hot, steamy parking lot.  The shade will reduce the temperature of the storm water and reduce the thermal impact to the downgradient Park streams. Native Plant Sale: 9am-noonish

Sale Pricing! Buy 1 get one 1/2 price!

  • 4" perennials: $8
  • 1 gal shrubs/trees: $20

Fall is the best time for planting! While the plants are losing their leaves and going dormant, their roots are healthy. When you plant in the fall, the plants' roots have more time to get established before the spring and summer heat. This means the plants are stronger and will be more likely to thrive. Registration is not required to attend the sale.
